Essay

Micheal Jackson -Thriller (Uses of sounds & non diegetic sound)

In micheal jackson Thriller directed by John Landis it uses different techniques like colours, shadows, camera angles and sound effects which makes it effective. I will only be focusing on the use of sounds and non diegetic sounds in the video. The director john Landis uses many diegetic and non diegetic sounds to contribute to the video. For example the maniacal laugh which contrasts with girl screaming leaves the auidence in a fearful state showing that the girl is in danger . This is an example of  a diegetic sound when the girl screams when micheal jackson turns into a werewolf. The scream creates tension with the auidence which makes them  frighten putting the viewer in the girl's position . The crunching of stones beneath Micheal Jackson and his "supposed" girlfriend" feet whilst walking along the path after the car broken down is another example of a diegetic sound .The non diegetic sound of the voiceover makes the video more interesting as with the mise-en-scene to create a scary mood.
